Accra, Ghana – Third Briefing

After our first full week at Greater Accra Regional Hospital, the team was given a much deserved break to rest and start planning for our last FOUR (!) days of surgery here in Ghana. On Saturday, before taking the day off, a few of our team members, including surgeons Dr. Wustrack and Dr. Zarella, lead pediatrcian Dr. Mackell, pediatrician Dr. Rumberger and lead nurse Darrell Daugherty made a trip to the hospital to do final checks and discharge the four cases from Friday.

All four patients were doing great, and four-month-old Grace Njoya (photos below) really stole our hearts. Her mother traveled alone for 16 hours along with Grace’s younger sister with hopes for a primary lip revision. From screening to surgery to recovery, Grace was a trooper throughout, and thanks to the incredible work of our team she may never even be able to tell she had a procedure.

We can’t wait to get back at it Monday morning. EVERY CHILD DESERVES A SMILE!
