Core to the mission of AfS is providing “peer to peer” and “provider to patient” education as appropriate for any given environment. Though this education is critical, it can be difficult in complex situations such as those found on medical missions. To help mitigate some of these difficulties, we have created an Educational Library for providers and staff.
This is a living library and we ask that you submit your own subject matter and educational products to help grow the library. All documents are downloadable and we encourage you to use any product you find helpful. As internet access may be limited while on a mission it is recommended that you download materials prior to leaving your home country. and store the items on your device or a thumb drive.

Alliance for Smiles follows global standards for cleft and craniofacial care on all of our missions. As providers, we work with host nation teams, providers and administrative staff to provide the best possible care in a given environment. In general, we follow the guidelines of American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA) Parameters of Care. It is not always possible to provide comprehensive team care on a given mission, but we strive to provide as comprehensive care as possible. AfS also has internal policies and guidelines regarding mission care, they can be found here.
In addition to peer to peer education, patient and family education is vital to the success of any AfS mission. You can find a separate library of educational materials for patients and families here.
