Alliance for Smiles is supported by the generosity of our medical volunteers who work in medical facilities and donate discarded surplus medical supplies. AFS receives medical supplies and equipment from hospitals, clinics, individuals, medical supply companies, and many other sources. If not for the resourcefulness of these generous people and organizations, these items would end up in landfills, unable to benefit the people who need them the most.
Surplus medical supplies are created in a variety of ways. Cancelled procedures lead to discarding of supplies, promoted new items leave supplies sitting on shelves, prescribed home supplies are rarely used to completion, and newer technology renders equipment obsolete. The abundance of medical supplies that are taken for granted in this country are in contrast to the lack of essentials available to patients in China. Items considered disposable in the U.S., such as gloves, tubing, and drapes are often washed and reused in many other countries.

We collect only the supplies on the list below , and they cannot be expired. AFS accepts surplus medical supplies that have not had patient contact; they can be sterile or non-sterile. Donated electrical equipment must be in working condition as we do not have the license or staff to repair medical equipment. We do not accept pharmaceuticals that are expired and no refrigerated medication, since we cannot send these out of the country.
We can also supply our UPS account info so you can ship the supplies and bill us directly for shipping costs if needed. Since Alliance for smiles is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. AFS can supply you with a tax receipt for your medical supply donation, just send us an approximation on the value of your donation.
Medical Supply Needs
AFS is able to use supplies donated from many departments: Surgical, Anesthesia, Pre and Post-Operative, Pediatrics, Nursing, Dental and Bio-Medical. We have a complete list of medical supplies and are happy to provide that list to you.
